Ventura Breakers [Velocity 101] went undefeated in Saturday games at the Yosemite Spring Fling basketball tournament April 5th-7th, then walked away with a three-foot high trophy and individual medals on Sunday after finishing third overall in the tournament.  Rachel Jamroz and Claire Hansen were leading scorers for the weekend event and Nicole Andell was chosen for the Most Valuable Player award.

The team and all family members stayed overnight on April 5th and 6th at the prestigious Tenaya Lodge fifteen miles from Yosemite High School where games were played.  Everyone assembled after the Saturday victories at the Timberloft Pizzeria which the folks at Tenaya had reserved for the team and all enjoyed 90 minutes of food, beverages, friendship and fun.  Afterward, the girls roasted marshmallows and had Smores in a fire pit adjacent to the Tenaya skating rink.

The weather was warm during the day, freezing at night and, like the memories and fun, was the best of any ever at the Yosemite Tournament.

Velocity 101 playing as the Ventura Breakers finished in the middle of  Saturday’s pool play on March 16, 2013 after a hard-fought 20-17 win over their Bakersfield opponent in the 32nd annual Lompoc Spring Tournament.  The team was not able to finish high enough on Sunday to earn a trophy.

The overnight trip was highlighted by a stay at the Embassy Suites courtyard hotel, pizza and cookie combat at MiAmour Pizza and Pasta, and a long swim at the Lompoc Community pool which been reserved for the occasion.

Players found a way into the coach’s hotel room for some messy hi jinx, then silly-stringed the coach when he went to investigate.  It was all in fun and produced some great memories.
