Velocity 101 completed its 2011-2012 season with a pizza celebration and awards at Round Table Pizza in Ventura on April 26, 2012.  With all 10 members in attendance, the girls of 101 were each given a personalized plaque thanking them for eight months of hard work and fun.

Family members and players also gave coach Bobby a new ball bag and an impressive and much-appreciated  wall-sized collage of pictures of all of the girls and games played throughout the season.

The team was recognized for excellence in progressing from little effectiveness in the beginning to a strong finish in the Seaside Tournament (April) and second place trophies in Lompoc (March).

V101′s three 8th graders will move on to the Buena High School girls basketball team while the remaining 6th and 7th graders will move into their Summer programs.

Velocity’s 2013 preseason will begin in June 2012 with  occasional events and practices before going into full season workouts in the Fall.   Girls who will be in the 7th and 8th grades in September of 2012 are invited to practice and/or play with the team in the Summer preseason.   Email coach Bobby at venturawildcats@ yahoo.com

101 Ends Season on a High Note

Ventura, CA
April 21-22, 2012
Playing better with each minute, the girls of Velocity 101 surged to an 8-0 lead against Aikkanes in Sunday’s final game before falling 28-20.  With two players in foul trouble for most of the game and only one other player on the bench, 101 rallied behind strong guard play by Emily Herring and some strong defense and smart press-break by the entire team, but sharp shooting by Aikkanes late in the game deprived 101 of a win.
While the Seaside Tournament marked the end of the V101 season, there was admiral growth on the part of each player and for the team as a whole.  A Summer program may be scheduled on a reduced basis for the current 6th-7th graders.

Velocity 101 played excellent competition in four games against opponents three of which were much bigger and appeared older at the Swoosh Southern California Classic tournament in Santa Barbara.

V-101 competed hard and well despite infirmities to half of it’s front line and having just one substitute.  Highlight of the weekend was Velocity’s 6th-8th graders running off ten straight points against a high school opponent.
