Wildcat Clinic 2011

May 12, 2012

The 19th annual Wildcat Clinic culminated a four-day run with more drills and scrimmages led by instructors from Santa Clara High School, Buena High School, Ventura High School, and three assistants from Ventura middle schools.

Miss Tiffany Dooley was guest speaker for the final day of the clinic and she encouraged players to establish good reputations and be known for excellence both on and off the court; to not follow the lead of others, especially when others would lead them to trouble. She encouraged players with quotes from Albert Einstein who noted that we are bombarded with information about how to live, but we need to take time at least once each day to think for ourselves on how our lives should be and focus on our own dreams.

Besides being a former star basketball player for Benicia High School, Miss Dooley is an experienced basketball coach and game official. She is also a new and important friend for the Ventura Wildcats.

Michele Flinn of Santa Clara High School demonstrated a variety of drills including the start of this very effective box-out skill. Michele is expected to be a vital contributor to Santa Clara’s varsity program which this season went deep into the Southern California regional playoffs.

Karly Maciel (in black) from Buena High School is one of the best drill leaders in her age group. Sara Reynoso (with ball) is athletic, fast, smart, and skilled.

Claire Hansen is one of the best players to watch. She attacks with the ball, plays smart defense, and you gotta love her never-ending smile.

The clinic continues through Thursday and is followed by the player draft with subsequent rosters posted on this website.

Coach David Guenther of Buena High School’s high-powered girls basketball program was the guest speaker on opening day of the 19th annual Ventura Wildcat Basketball clinic.

Coach Guenther encouraged Wildcat players to work hard in the classroom to earn their best grades and at home to be the best daughter and sister and citizen because those are the elements of a complete player in high school.

Buena High School finished the 2010-2011 season just two points away from going to the State of California girls basketball championship just two months ago.

The clinic was attended by 56 younger players and was led by six players from Buena High School, one from Santa Clara High Schools regional finalist, and two eighth graders.

The clinic will continue through Thursday, May 12th after which coaches will assemble to conduct the player draft. Results of the player draft will be posted on this website by 9pm on Thursday.

Buena High School has 19 consecutive years sending players and coaches to the Wildcat Clinic.
Support of area high schools has helped the Wildcat program to grow and improve.

Santa Clara High School and two middle schools were sources of help for the 2011 clinic.
